Maya A. Lake: Boxing Kitten

Maya's inspiration comes from Josephine Baker, W.E.B. Dubois, and her mother Marion Lake. She started desinging clothes at 10, and began sewing and making clothes for her family and friends at the age of 15. Her clothes mainly consisted of reworked t-shirts with bold prints but after attending Wesleyan University, there was where her line cultivated. She incorporated her style and African American history togethether to birth Boxing Kitten. Her clothes have been worn by Erykah Badu, Solange, Fergie and Christina Milian.

(Love this, above)

"If you take the patterns and very feminine silhouettes of women from the Civil Rights and then put those dresses in African inspired prints and fabric, then you have the Boxing Kitten woman." -Maya A. Lake
